Kiowa Spotted Tail
Unknown-1873
Kiowa known as Spotted Tail in local lore; unknown burial location. It is written, (many decades after his death) that he assisted in locating a lost child from Buckner. The legend also maintains that Spotted Tail assisted locals in burials during an outbreak of smallpox and subsequently died from the disease. It is said that he was buried at Buckner Cemetery.

Notes and ongoing research:
~The current and most accurate list of burials in Buckner Cemetery to date
includes the O’Brien family members and relatives of Lorenzo and Polly
Graves. Earlier burials mentioned by historians that occurred in the 1840's +
have not been identified. These were described as being marked with wooden markers. ~The gravesite of Kiowa Spotted Tail has never been identified for certain, and it being unmarked will probably remain so.
~New research evidence points to an accidental transcription error on potential burials at Buckner Cemetery. This burial list with extra names was submitted with the original THC application. The people with the surnames Addington, Baker, Cross, and Kindle are actually buried in Higgins Cemetery which is also in Collin County. These individuals are also listed on census records as living in the Higgins settlement for decades. This new evidence also means that the number of burials first implied to be present, are in fact less in number than previously believed. No evidence to-date suggests that these individuals were ever originally buried at Buckner Cemetery. No evidence has been identified that any of these burials were moved or reinterred elsewhere.
~As mentioned previously, two individuals were originally buried at Buckner
(Lorenzo H Graves and his wife, Polly Graves) but were disinterred in 1985 and moved to Melissa Cemetery also in Collin County (according to both FindaGrave and Ancestry and family members with whom the matter has been discussed). Their footstones still remain at Buckner, adding to the confusion.
~An additional marker for an infant, only partially intact, appears to belong to Reily Donnell (various spellings of first name), Cir. 1879-1881 (death date
July 4, 18--). We are hoping to identify where the child was interred, but next to
the infant brother’s grave seems likely. This unnamed brother (“Infant
Donnell”) died the same year (May 1881) on the same day as his birth.
